YAKSHAGANA

       Yakshagana is a combination of  dance, music,  make-up, costume, dialogue, and stage techniques with a unique style and form. And this unique style form is called as Folk theater. This is  very old and traditional dance form in Karnataka. Yakshagana is very much popular in Karnataka and mainly in coastal area and malenadu  religion.  In older days this is the main entertainment provider to the people and this is mainly conducted on honor of specific god by a family or by all village peoples together.
                                   

Yakshagana mainly had two main types:
1. Badagatittu
        Badagatittu yakshagan folk form prevalent in Northern place of South Canara. The Yakshagana group is called MELA. And in Badagatittu mela are as follows:
  • Shri Amratheshwri Dashavathara Yakshagana Mandali, Kota
  • Shri Dhurgaparameshwari Yakshagana Mandali, Mandarthi
  • Anantha Padmanabha Yakshagana Mandali, Perdooru
  • Shri Guruprasaditha Yakshagana Mandali, Saligrama. And etc...

2. Tenkatittu
         Tenkatittu yakshgana folk from prevalent in Southern part of South Canara. Tenkatittu mela are as follows:
  • Bagavathi Yakshagana Mandali
  • Mangaladevi Yakshagana Mandali
  • Kateelu Yakshagana Mandali

Following are the main Instruments:
1. Thala
2. Maddale
3. Chande
                   Yakshagana is the dance form  which is called as Bayalata in older days. This dance form is very much famous in older days. But now our new generation is no interested in this folk dance form.
